| The challenge of geosciences is to understand our planet and its history, and to use that knowledge to forecast its future in an era of global change.
Undergraduate students interested in majoring in Geosciences must do so through the Individualized Major Program at this time. Find out more about this process by clicking on the link.
Through the individualized major program, undergraduates can choose to study one of three structured 'tracks' in the geosciences: Geobiology , Earth Surface Processes , and Physics of the Earth . (Click on each one for details about that particular track).
Each track has different course requirements emphasizing topics of relevance for that particular track, as well as a common group of core courses that all geoscience undergrads must take.
Or, if none of the tracks are exactly what you are looking for, students can create their own (not structured) Individualized Major in an area of geosciences that interestes them.
Environmental Geosciences is also available as a concentration in the Environmental Science major offered by the ENVS program. Find out more by clicking here!

Geoscience Minor
Students have the option to do a minor in geosciences at UConn, as a complement to many majors offered. A minor in geosciences provides instruction in the core concepts and principal methods of investigation in the study of the Earth. Examples include combining a geoscience minor with majors in: Anthropology, Natural Resources Management, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Marine Sciences, Geography, Engineering, and many more.
Minoring in geosciences consists of taking a total of at least 15 credits of GEOL courses, and earning a grade of C or better in each of these courses:
Courses for the minor are:
GEOL 250 : Earth History and Global Change (3 cr)
GEOL 251 : Earth Surface Processes (3 cr)
GEOL 252 : Earth Structure (3 cr)
GEOL 253 : Earth Materials (4 cr)
And one more GEOL course of students choosing, in consultation with their minor advisor.
