Geobiology Track for Individualized Major in Geosciences:
GEOBIOLOGY emphasizes the links and feedbacks between biological and geological processes through exposure to basic concepts of ecology, evolutionary biology, and geomicrobiology.
Are you interested in the history of life on Earth? The possibility of life on other planets? The role tiny microbes may play in mediating geological processes? The various ways biological processes have shaped the Earth? If the answer to any of these questions is yes, consider enrolling in the Individualized Major in Integrative Geosciences Geobiology Track.
  
Coursework:
In addition to the required core courses , the Geobiology track requires the following coursework:
I. GEOBIOLOGY COURSES:
Students choose three courses from the following group:
EEB 244 or 244W: General Ecology (4cr)
EEB 245 or 245W: Evolutionary Biology (3 or 4cr)
MCB 229: Fundamentals of Microbiology (4cr)
MARN 236: Marine Microbiology (3cr)
Total: 10 or 12 credits
II. RESEARCH, INFORMATION LITERACY, AND APPLIED COURSE REQUIREMENTS:
Choose one of the following options:
OPTION 1 : 6 credits with at least 1 course from each of the following groups:
Group 1 :
CE 271: Geomatics and Spatial Measurement (4cr)
EEB 293W: Methods of Ecology (4cr)
GEOG 232: Principles and Applications of Physical Geography (4cr)
GEOL 213: Spring Field Trip (3cr)
GEOL 257: Field Problems in Earth Structure (1cr)
MARN 212: Measurement and Analysis in Coastal Ecosystems (3cr)
Group 2 :
GEOL 293/294: Internship in Geology and Geophysics - Field Study/Research Paper (2-4cr)
GEOL 296: Undergraduate Research in Geology and Geophysics (3cr)
GEOL 299: Independent Study (variable cr)

OPTION 2 :
GEOL 212: Field Geology (6cr)
